This renovation provided an opportunity to delve into the life and times of President Harry S. Truman. A farmer and veteran who never graduated college, Truman was thrust into the presidency when President Roosevelt died in the midst of World War II. Truman’s decisions are acutely relevant to contemporary American life and governance.

Roles + Responsibilities:

  • Led Museum content development and research in SD & DD phases;
  • Interviewed client and experts to craft exhibit narrative options;
  • Outlined, drafted, revised and edited text panels, interactives, timelines + captions;
  • Contributed exhibit and interactive ideas in collaboration with design team;
  • Managed artifact and image research, inventory and acquisition.

Stewart Indian School Cultural Center & Museum

The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum opened in January 2020 in Carson City, Nevada. Housed in the school’s former administration building, the Cultural Center is dedicated to the memory of the first Stewart students from the Great Basin tribes and all impacted by the Indian boarding school experience. The Museum and its design seek to honor living American Indian materials and traditions.

Roles + Responsibilities:

  • Led content and narrative strategy from Master Plan to Design Development;
  • Gathered and integrated input and feedback from tribal advisory committee, Museum director, curator and researchers to craft exhibit narratives;
  • Outlined, drafted, revised and edited text panels, timelines and captions;
  • Collaborated with design team and curator in formulating exhibit and interactive ideas;
  • Managed artifact and image inventories, collaborated with design team to determine placement.

Legends of Smith Tower

Content Developer | Art Director

 

Built in 1914, Smith Tower is a beloved historic office tower in the Pioneer Square District of Seattle. Once the tallest skyscraper west of the Mississippi, it is home to an eccentric history involving bootleggers, spies and other larger-than-life characters. I worked with the client and design team to craft an immersive, self-guided tour experience culminating in a visit to their famed Observatory “speakeasy” with a stunning 360-view of Seattle.

Roles + Responsibilities:

  • Conducted content, image and artifact research;
  • Managed content writing and story flows;
  • Art directed period environments to create immersive storytelling spaces;
  • Worked with exhibition, media and fabrication teams to craft story line, script audio dramas and design interactive historical set pieces;
  • Supervised content writing, environment installation and artifact installation.

Changbai Natural History Museum

Content Developer | Interactive Narrative Design

Changbai Mountain is a dormant volcano in Northeastern China. Every year, thousands of visitors travel to the peak of Changbai, which is regarded by many as sacred. This renovation of the Changbai Natural History Museum sought to merge the site’s rich biological, historical and mythological content elements into a fresh design, featuring an immersive media experience to engage a new generation of visitors.

 

Roles + Responsibilities:

  • Led content development & strategy for global, bilingual science museum;
  • Composed narrative flows in collaboration with clients, experts and designers to carry visitors from beneath the storied volcano to its peak;
  • Managed bilingual communications and scripting from proposals to final drafts;
  • Conceived and wrote media treatments for a fantastical immersive theatrical and interactive avatar experience through which visitors can explore Changbai’s natural history and mythology;
  • Developed integrated content management systems for image assets and specimens.

Haggin Museum

The Haggin Museum in Stockton, California reopened in 2018 following the renovation of its 19th and 20th century American and European Art Galleries. It is now in the process of renovating its History Galleries. I was senior content developer for the Art Gallery artifact display vestibules (DD and CD phases) and Master Plan phase of the History Gallery renovation.

Roles + Responsibilities:

  • Strategized with curator to identify key stories and artifacts;
  • Researched and wrote text panels to accompany vestibule displays;
  • Designed image and artifact placement to accompany narrative flow;
  • Proposed content flow, wrote outlines and story proposals, conducted research and input meetings, and documented key artifacts (History Gallery Master Plan).

National Blues Museum

Content Manager + Asset Acquisition

Gallagher & Associates

The National Blues Museum in downtown St. Louis, MO explores + celebrates Blues music as foundational to all modern American music. I worked with the graphic designer and content writer, Museum board members, families of musicians,  archives, photographers + collectors to bring the text to life with artifacts + images. On this project I worked to ensure representation of the incredible women musicians + performers of Blues music, and enjoyed tracking down rare 78s.

Roles + Responsibilities:

  • Conducted content, artifact + photo research;
  • Managed artifact + image acquisition, inventory + clearance;
  • Content consultation.
